Iz what up homie

Israel
What’s up wit chu bra! Whats going on mane

Me
Mang its all good trying get my life together lol. So who is IsRael Musiq?

IsRael
IsRael Musiq is A Christian first who loves the lord, Producer,  full time college student and soon to be Husband, Friday August 6, 2010 I WED TO MY BEAUTIFUL FIANCEE…Ariella Musi

Me
Oh wow!!! I didn’t know that seeing that you don’t holla at me no more since you the most sought after producers these day lol!!!! Congrats are you ready?

IsRael
HAHAHAHAH YEA RIGHT!!!! You da big shot over there going on trips to the moon and bak errtime I read your twitter! You know you my dudes mane… As far as being ready I believe I’m ready to learn and ready for the lord (as well as family in the faith) to show me how to love her as Christ did the chruch… Its one of those concepts I didnt understand until I had to live it out!

Me
No doubt bruh. Marriage is a beautiful fam! So how long have you been producing?

IsRael
I’ve been producing for 11 years now (Started on a Playstation 1 Game called “MTV Music Generator 1”) since 199 when that came out, I used to love video games growing up staying up for days at a time playing. One day I read in a Game Informer ad they had a music video game, I tried it and was hook making beats… lol 1999.

Me
Ok ok ok how did you get into producing Christian music.

IsRael
Simple answer, when I became Christian
I just started doing it for Him and never looked back

Me
Ok your sound is so different. whats ur process when you are making a track

IsRael
Well, it all depends, but most of the times I lay down the drums in cubase, then start playing around with melody’s on the keyboard. Then take it from there. Or I would be just practicing piano (very important) find some new chords or sound then build around that. All depends how the music flows. And I’m not quick like you any more… I take on average a week per track hahaha!

IsRael
Nothing to different though… but if I might add a BIG process to trying to sound different is to not listen to whats “hot”. Humans are good mimickers if that’s a word.. If you listen to that producer all the time your probably going to sound like em weather you try to or not lol

Me
Yeah thats true. I was talking to friend the other day and he was surprised that I wasn’t up on all the new CHH albums out even the ones I worked on. When I’m searching for a new sound I have a tendency to tune everything else out. What was your first big album you worked on?

IsRael
It was Def Everyday Process: Out Of This World. Shout out to my man Exoduz because he new Mac from way back and he introduced us, we had convo just discussing the basics… I sent beats, they liked em and the rest is history.

Me
I think when other upcoming producers see the accomplishments ,they automatically think its smooth sailing from there on out. Kinda, but not really. What s your take on that?

IsRael
HAHAHA!!! You would think so… BUT I’ve found out its actually harder, ALOT harder!!!!

IsRael
To back that up a lil bit mane in Proverbs 16:26 it says that The laborer’s appetite works for him; his hunger drives him on.. Thats SOOO true because when you first start out YOUR SOOOO HUNGRY and that is what pushes you to make better music and become a better producer… Try maintaining that same drive 10 or so albums in and you dont have to call dudes up 50 thousand times to get beats to artist…
The battle then is not with your music, you’ve proven that, now your new battle is maintaining that hunger and really treating every project not as if it was your last but your first!
A man doesn’t eat as much when hes already ate…

Me
Hmmm ok. Got another question for you. Do you think producers and artists sometime make this music business an idol?

IsRael
Bra… ALL THE TIME!!! I’ve dealt with that HEAVY in the past when I used to make music and didn’t sleep only take naps man! I also remember crying at one point because I didnt make music for a week (my keyboard was in the shop)… So yes you DEF have to watch out!!!

IsRael
I will say this mane… You MUST you MUST you MUST, STAY IN THE WORD!!! If you dont, the passions of your own heart will overtake the passions of Gods heart. There is no wrong doing in working hard and being passionate BUT there is sin involved when you let that over take you and that’s all you want to do…

IsRael
Its very simple, Practice on your craft (we need to work in excellence), Love your craft (We need passionate people about the lords music) BUT do NOT let it over shadow the Lords plan, which is to see lives changed in his name… Do not let it overshadow the love you have for Gods will to be done in every mans life

Me
Yeah mang I feel that dude. There many of times I will go on a fast from the music. There is a lot of pressure that comes with being in demand for music. You lose focus so quick and this becomes a hustle. Gotta stay close to rhat word. What was your first piece of equipment?

IsRael
Well I truly consider my Playstation One my first as that was my first 5 years of producing but to keep it interesting my first “real” gear was the Korg Triton TR, which I still use today. I WAS SO SYKED UP WHEN I GOT IT!!!!!!! It was a gift from a family relative (which I still have and use in all my productions and it came out in like 2000 but I LOVE IT)

IsRael
I made beats on just that for about a year till I got more, that was my first taste of “wow, so thats how the big shots get there stuff to sound like this…” because with the video game all I did was sample for five years (Yes I’m a sample based producer, I just like to play piano)
Me
No doubt anybody you look up to in CHH?

IsRael
O yea mane def  Dewanye Trumpf mane… I remember hearing his music an just being blown away thinking “man, so this is what the lords music is suppose to sound like” I love his content, style of beats, and most of all the passion you can hear in his voice! Some dudes mimic the world or either not passionate about what there talking about… Nether one of those two options is needed in the body right now, well really its never needed, and dwanye seems to be keeping that in check.

IsRael
Also Tony Stone (first Christian Producer I ever respected), You of course, and also I’d have to say D-Free, He wins just because he made that “The league” on R-Swifts album which happens to be one of the hottest joints I’ve ever heard
ever

Me
Praise God.  I must admit, you keep me on my toes lol. I love hearing your work dude. I get inspired when I hear your music.
Any last words?

IsRael
I sure do… I know its maybe a little bit too much for last words but I feel as though it should be said. I really want to talk to the dudes who are debating or producing for secular artist but are christian right now is that cool? Just something quick.

Me
Yessir

IsRael
Ask yourself this question, is what you doing helping the body in which you yourself exist in or even more so is it hurting the body in which you are in? The question is not “is this sin or not” the question is is it beneficial to your fellow man in Christ? Yes, this is a job BUT music IS POWERFUL! It changes peoples LIVES! Anything that has the power to do that is no longer a job but a responsibility to steward it right for Christ sake!
Thats all mane

Me
No doubt fam thanx for your time dude and God Bless you and the new Wifey

IsRael
Thanks very much mane and God bless you and your family also, Christ Mode!

Me
Already fam.
