Mac!!! What up dude.

Mac
Coolin like Autumn weather boy! You?

Marv
Same here running hard.
Mang where have you been?

Mac
In Philly! Ha!
I been here man. just below the surface sometimes.
Still grinding though.

Marv
I hear you. For those that may not know of you, please introduce yourself to the readers.

Mac
OK. Well…Myles Lawhorn aka Mac the Doulos. Producer for some of your favorite rappers and 1/2 of the duo Everyday Process
shout out Iz-Real.

Marv
How long have you been producing?

Mac
wow!
Ummm….1st started in like 1997.

Marv
Mang now thats a long time bruh.

Mac
Started gettin serious in about 2000.
Yeah OG inthe game.

Marv
Lol Right.  You started on the mpc?

Mac

Nah, on an Alesis SR17 Drum Machine
and a Boss SP202
then graduated to the MPC 2000 xl.
That’s when it was getting more serious a dude was showin me the ropes on the MPC 3000 and Iwas floored.

Marv
Lol. I don’t think this new breed of producers know about running midi from machine to machine. I had SP505, SP202, and a Yamaha RM1

Mac
Right, no diss. Folks don’t control the era they enter into anthing but, it’s good to know where the very thing that you do came from and the era that was before yours
midi chains and zip disks and all that.

Marv
Right. I feel you. Married? Kids?

Mac
Yup. Married 9 years to my beautiful wife Bet Lawhorn! Shout out to her. Luv you babe! She loves God and her fam and rides out hard for us and two kids Myles IV and Mikaela.

Marv
Ok ok. Real quick name some of the Artists you worked with.

Mac

Ahhh man….well as a producer….several
The big names before Reach Records was Cross Movement….so them
Ambassador,Tonic, Everyday process,Timothy Brindle, Swift, Lecrae, Trip Lee
Evangel, Believin Stephen, Shai Linne, Phanatik, Braille, and Flame.

Marv
Aww you just trying to show out lol

Mac
Yup! OG fam!

Marv
No doubt famo. From when you started in CHH to now. I your opinion, where do you see genre going from here.

Mac
Even though I been at it for a while… I’m STILL trying to bang out heaters like Marv lol!

I think lots of good things are happening. It has expanded soooooo much and garnered a lot of attention from Christians and non-Christians
Whatever your lane…just gotta make sure that God can back what you’re doing. That’s He’s pleased with it. Lots of debates surround method and audience and all but just know what God has blessed you to do.
I think it can keep growing. I just wanna see artists and producers continue to be original and not copy what’s already popular and trendy at the time.
Influence by the trend is inevitable but don’t copy. Be original!

Marv

Shhheeesh for real bruh.
Something you said earlier about non believers noticing the genre. How do you feel about working with non believers musically, because at one time it was shuned upon and now its kinda like the norm now.

Mac
Yeah. Good question
I’ve honestly gone back and forth on the issue
I’ve settled on….the matter it’s not always black and white and not cookie cutter.
The bottom line is that artists (this even expands beyond art) should be doing what they are GIFTED to do and CALLED to do.
It would be silly for Christians to always do music for Christians and stay in churches
but we can’t always be doing gigs in places with unbelievers and have no Christian support
We need to be reaching out to unbelievers and seek God for wisdom as to when to partner with them and in what way when APPROPRIATE
and in a way that will still glorify God. That can look drastically different from art genre to art genre

Marv
Hmmm… ok… good stuff.

Mac
I know that many things we agree or disagree with in that area is OUR preference and opinion. What Jesus would actually do might shock us
Just like the crew that rolled with him as disciples who had drastically different opinions on things.
We forget Jesus was in the synagogues and with the sinners. BOTH
He was meek AND He turned over money tables in the temple and whipped a dude in there!
So….in whtever we do…we need to be led by God regardless of mere humn opinions on matters

Marv

I agree fam.

Mac
Galatians 1:10 backs that up.

Marv
How many joints you cranking out in a week these days?

Mac
Tryin to do quality and not quantity these days. Maybe one or 2 fully completed a week
That’s a good pace for me otherwise I would be grinding just cuz that’s like a trendy thing to say and do. I want to be REALLY inspired and then make a banger!!!

Marv
Ok ok. Let’s talk technology. Have you  move to all software?

Mac
Almost. Software is where it’s at!!!
I like the hybrid. I still need some pads here and there.
I own one classic synthesizer too
So…I’m about  70%-30%

Marv
Which synth is that?

Mac
MicroKorg!!!!!
So I gotta have a lil bit of analog love.

Marv
Huh Bruh I won the Rapzilla Beat Battle with a joint I did on my ipad using an app name BeatMaker2

Mac
Yeah! see….The BEAST!!! Yeah…Beat Maker 2 is nice too. I need to get on your level!!!!

Marv
Yeah bro when Im out of town my ipad is all I bring to work with. No keyboards. No Laptop.

Mac
Ahhhhh Nice. Weapon of choice on ipad is Beatmaker 2?

Marv
Yeah I got the iMac home. So whats in the future for you doc?

Mac

Marv
