Featured Producer of the Month Kadence

Marv

What up fam!!! How you?

Kadence
I’m good mang still winding down from this weekend

Marv
Mang I hear that, same here. Well for those that may not be familiar with the Kadence, tell the people who is he.

Kadence

Kadence is first of a servant of the Most high God who looks to please Him. I’m a husband, a father of 2, a producer, a rapper, a part time comedian plus much more

Marv
Comedian?

Kadence
Yea, but not really.. I just crack a lot of jokes. I love making people bob they heads and make them laugh.

Marv
Yeah mang laughter is good for the soul lol.

Marv
Who you are and who are some of the Artists and songs have you produced?

Kadence
Well i’m the In house Producer for Exodus Movement alongside my partner Halo
but outside of that…

Lecrae “Go Hard” from the Rebel album “More” from Rehab:overdose, Cam “Raindrops”, “Glorious”, and I co-produced “The Platform”, Lil Raskull “Game changer”, D-Maub “GetLoose” and “I’ma Slave” … those are a few
Exodus Movement tracks include “On Everything” “i’m Hood” “All my life” “Frontline” “Get Gone ft. Cam” etc…

Marv
Ok, ok, it’s funny hard Go Hard has been out for a while and so many listeners and artists for that matter, don’t know you produced that track. Is that a issue for you (not even on some prideful stuff), but do you feel like the producer gets short end of the stick?

Kadence
Well honestly, when I first did the track, I was just thankful to be apart of the project. But after I seen the impact it had, I was like whoa! I can’t say I was done wrong in any way by Reach Records or Lecrae because, they have honored their side of the deal and paid royalties all that. Lecrae even got at me again for the Overdose project. So Im still thankful….but to answer your question, Producers do get the short end. I don’t believe that most artists look out for the producers to make sure they can find more business and spread out.

Marv
I dig that bruh that was of the first convo’s we had. And not to be seen because, we know promotion comes from the Lord, but to let people know that we play apart of what the artist displays. Shew back in the back the producer was the brain of the process from the beats, to the artist development.

Kadence

True

Marv
What equipment do you use?

Kadence
Ha-ha mang my set up is stupid simple. FL Studio and a Motif
I look at some people’s set up and be like dang… what am I doing?

Marv
Ok Mang I interviewed Alex Medina and I asked what is the misconception people have about FL. Whats your take on it?

Kadence
Well I think a lot of cats think that since its a computer program that they cant bootleg it and tap some buttons and make beats, but its actually a very intricate software. If used it right (ie 9th Wonder, Lex Luger, Vybe beats) you can make some very hot tracks. I learn new stuff constantly on there.

Marv
I never used it but, I know had to be dope when 9th Wonder was winning Grammy’s with it.
Do you think there is enough unity among Producer’s?

Kadence

Honestly, not as much as there could be. It was about 2 years after I produced my first major record that I began to even see who else was out there making heat on the gospel side of things. I hope that in the future producers would stick together, work together, and help progress the movement.

Marv
Yeah mang me too I got some ideas i’m going share with you.
Whats your creative process like in the studio?

Kadence
Mang I get kinda crazy int he studio… I lay one instrument… get up walk around….. come back add a couple more….walk out the studio….. listen from the door…. just crazy fam. I really get into it. I feel it. sometimes I write a hook to it… just to sell it. lol

Marv
You said you have a production partner. How is it working with someone else?

Kadence
Mang really its a blessing. We make beats separately at our own studios but we send tracks back and forth for ideas and improvements. Also when we produce together its dope to have someone add to the masterpiece you are creating. Make the studio session more exciting. Halo is a super humble cats with a lot of talent. Easy to work with. Can’t say It would go that well with anyone else. But as for Halo, he is very easy to work with.

Kadence
Bet he use FL too right?

Kadence

Yessir! The key to fruity loops is getting away from stock sounds and buying plug ins
I used to produce on a DJX and Kurzweil K2000 … I loved both but the drums was killing me.
my boy D. woody showed me fruity loops an I been a fan ever since. I started out just making my drum tracks on their and using keyboard sounds.. now I use both for both.

Marv
Yeah mang Woody is dope I have seen  some of his youtube vids

Kadence

Yea thats my big bro. He taught me fruity loops.. and what confused me was that this cat is a musician at his church. I never expected him to pull that out when I asked how he made tracks. But he showed me major love and taught me everything I know…and still teaching me

Marv
Bet it’s always good to keep passing it on.
What do you want to see more of in CHH

Kadence
I want to see more originality. A lot of rappers in CHH get so obsessed with what the world is doing, they start doing corny remakes. And they want us to produce it!… I just want to see dope music come from our genre and the wack cats retire from music and get into management, booking, promotion etc… We need a stronger brand in CHH. Whenever I’m looking for new stuff its hit and miss, but mostly miss.

Marv
Yeah I feeeeel you and don’t you just hate when artist ask you to make like Jezzy,Drake,or Lecrae. So disgusting!

Kadence

Right! LOL Its one this to stay relevant, but its another thing to just copy what you hear cause you want to make it that bad.

Marv
Mang I recently heard a story that major CHH artist requested some crap like that from a producer. Ridiculous!!!

Kadence
LOL

Marv
Before we get out any last remarks

Kadence

Man just to share my heart a lil bit. I was gifted to do this. No man taught me whats been put inside of me, so I refuse to let me delegate my gift. I have dedicated my music to God and I have a passion to make music that can go to any block, hood, or street and make cats turn heads. Rappers just know that you are not doing me a favor by rapping on my beat. The work we do in CHH is worth triple what we get in return and its truly a service to the one and only True God to see his kingdom advance. And That’s in LOVE!

Marv
Amen bruh. Any shout outs?

Kadence

ShoutOut to my dude HALO, D. Woody, 778 music group, Swade with Noiz of Zion Productions,

and all the up and coming producers who have dedicated their gift to the Kingdom. Our FULL reward is in heaven, cuz ain’t nobody bout to pay us $5k for a beat LOL.

Marv
Lol!!! Mang you never cuz. I very hopeful.

Kadence
Yeah u right

Marv
One more question

Marv
How did it feel when you got the first royalty check? lol

Kadence
I ain’t gone lie
I felt like Charlie Sheen….. WINNING!!!!!!!
It was wonderful

Marv

Kadence
