What Up!

Marv
No doubt appreciate you getting it in with me on this interview.

No problem, bro! Anytime! I appreciate it!

Marv
For those that are reading and that may not be familiar with who you are, please introduce yourself.

Steve
I go by the name of Steve-T Exclusive! You may have heard my work on Flame’s “Move,” “Show Out,” & Json’s “Running,” just to name a few. I was also in a group called Forever, and produced our hit song “Put Me In” and Json’s “Brand New.

Steve
No doubt. Besides Flame and Json, who else have you produced for?
I’ve produced for a lot of Christian rappers hear in STL like Will R.O.C, Kuntry Boyy, Scooda, Mike Real, etc. I’ve also produced for Zerub of Z180 radio, and I currently have 5 tracks on Fedel’s album V.I.P, go pick that up.

Marv
Ok, ok. I see you from the Lou. I’m good friends with Nab and J.R. We did a lot work for Cross Movement back in the day.

Steve
That’s what’s up! Those are the homies, Great guys man, I look up to them.

Marv
Amen, those are some good dudes. Married?

Steve
Yessir! Going on 5 years this August!

Marv
Wow, ok! Kids?

Steve
Yep. 7yr old daughter (before marriage) 2 and 3 year old sons and another baby boy on the way God is good. LOL!

Marv
How long have you been producing and how did you start out?

Steve
I’ve been producing for 8 or 9 years now. I started off rapping though.  I can remember my first time going to a real studio as an artist, and I developed a whole new outlook on music. I wanted to be more hands on with my work opposed to just being the artist in the equation. I was signed to a few local labels and things didn’t go well (before I gave my life to Christ) so I took the initiative to venture off into production.  I had friends that were into producing, too, and that’s kinda how it started. From there, I guess I got good at it, lol! And around 2006, I had this group from STL called DaBanggaz314. Within 6 months of working with them, we had the Lou on lock and landed them a deal with Atlantic Records.

Marv
What happened with the deal?

Steve
Testimony time!!!!! Well, so now we got the deal, we were living it up, shows everywhere, sex, drugs, money, fame etc. Once all that came into play, that’s when division came in. The group started to crumble. Trust between management became an issue, accusations and all. For me, even before I got saved I always knew that a house divided against itself would fall. To make a long story short, I also knew that was God’s way of drawing me to Himself.

Marv
Wow, Praise God, Bruh. Are you producing full time or you still working a 9-5?

Steve
Full time! I do videos, too. I run my own studio, and I also produce for my wife, too. She was actually the star of the group DaBanggaz314. God used that whole situation to turn both our lives around, and now we have some things in the work with This’l at Full Ride.

Marv
What is a typical work day for you?

Steve
My typical day is simple. Wake up around 9 or 9:30 (Don’t judge me) LOL! Prayer, coffee, all the in between. If I don’t have an in studio client, I’m either making new tracks or tracking beats, mixing, or editing video. My day varies depending on my workload. Sometimes I have a list of things to finish up, and other days, I make sure I’m getting SOMETHING done regardless! Consistency, faith and diligence is key!

Marv
Lol! No doubt. How did you link up with Flame and Json?

Steve
That was completely God. I was never the type to shop beats and send my tracks all over the place. Json actually reach out to me for the City Lights album, but I didn’t meet the deadline, He reached out again for Growing Pains, and it was a wrap! I had actually been building with This’l for a couple of years prior. This’l told Flame to get at me (S/O to THIS’L) so, Flame hit me up, I sent him a few joints, and “Move” was the one that stood out to him. I had already laid the hook down and did all the post on it. All he had to do is kill it the way he did, lol! Man, but that “Move” track was over a year old when Flame bought it. It was just sitting here, LOL!

Marv
Wow, that joint was dope, too, Bruh.

Steve
Thanks!

Marv
I know Flame and Json. I link my homie IsRael Musiq with up Json for the City Lights joints he produced most of the album.

Steve
Yeah, those joints where crazy, too!

Marv
What equipment are you using to produce with?

Steve
All I use is FL studio, an M-Audio midi controller, Protools 8 LE, Digi 002 rack. I got a gang off VSTi’s and drum kits.

Marv
Bet. So what can we be expecting from you in the future?

Steve
Look for Nonna (wifey) in the near future on the Full Ride roster! I’m currently in the process of working on some joints for Flame’s new album. I got a few local projects I’m working on, too! Videos, and banging Exclusives!

Marv
No doubt, fam. Well, Bro, thanks for getting up with me, dude. Keep making great music.

Steve
Fasho! Thank You & God Bless!
