Featured Producer of the Month D-Flow

Marv

D-Flow what up bruva!

D-Flow

Whats good fam. Im doing good
You?

Marv

Great fam. Its funny I was talking to homeboy of mind and was telling him they got so many young hungry producers coming from everywhere, I feel like a O.G. in producerville lol!

D-Flow

Lol. True
You been doing your thing bro.
I’m a fan.
Heard your joint on Pros album. Good stuff bro.

Marv

Aww mang, I’m a fan. It feels so good to see a fresh batch of producers like yourself get major opportunities to display your gift for the Glory of God. So how long have you been producing?

D-Flow

Thanks bro. Well i’d like to think i was into music since day one. My family is musically oriented so I remember being in the studio at the age of 8. But i really started producing in February of 2008. The whole plan was to make beats that i could rap on, but as time went I started to prefer crafting the instrumental ideas than rapping on the track. (i still rap though lol). But yea thats it bro, since February 2008

Marv

Wow 3 years? Ok who have you worked with and what albums?

D-Flow

I’ve worked with Json on “City Lights”, K-drama on “We fit the workout plan”, Future on “Endure”, Thisl on “Unreleased Chronicles”, Lecrae on “Rehab the Overdose”, Flame on “Captured” Pastor Ad3, Fedel, Sarah Rodriguez, Mikereal and a whole lot more
I’ve got a lot lined up for 2011 so i’m excited. Working with new people too. Oh yeah Pro also.

Marv

Sound like you got some royalty checks in the air lol. How long have you been Saved?

D-Flow

Lol! Yessir. Grew up in a Christian Home. But i wasn’t “truly saved” like i call it till December 2006 Sir.

Marv

Ok ok what equipment do you use?

D-Flow

FL Studio 9. Akai Mpk49 and a Yamaha Motif ES6

Marv

Ok i’m a Reason and Natives Komplete man myself. I notice your signature sound is horns. Is that attentionally?

D-Flow

Thats cool. I tried reason before but I couldn’t flow with it. lol. S/O to all my Reason people. Yes sir horns. I love horns and yes its an attempt to always be identified. I’m quite diverse though, I think i like to take people by surprise. I’m doing some Pop and RnB work this year so its going to be nothing close to horns and all that. But yea I love Horns. I think its good to master something and use it well, but then at the same time not be so dependent on it

Marv

Yes diversity will keep you working my dude. In your opinion what are some of the downfalls in CHH?

D-Flow

From a producer standpoint I still think there are a couple of artists out there who are scared to try things out. Like I remember making beats and playing it for people and they were like “i don’t think CHH is ready for this.” I think some artists are still scared of sounding too much like the “secular stuff” but to me i think music is music. Another thing is…Mixing & Mastering. As far as i’m concerned we are not there “Yet” but i believe everything is a growing process
Thats why personally as a producer i’m not going to settle. I’m gonna challenge artists, and also be continually challenged to strive for excellence Musically.

Marv

Ok, on that note of excellence do you ever have problems with artist when it comes to paying for your music?

D-Flow

So far i’ve not.

Marv

Whats your price range, if you mind me asking?

D-Flow

I go from $150 and up. Depending on who I work with I can be flexible with prices.

Marv

You know with your credibility you gon have eventually go up.  REAL TALK! Artist have to start dealing business in excellency. I think that is where we lacking. Quality over quantity.

D-Flow

Oh yes Definitely…
I have to agree with you on that “Quality over Quantity”
I actually have a quote for signed artists, indie artists and all that.
so yeah its not just $150 for anyone.

Marv

Oh I know but, i’m talking about the indies cats. I know labels pay more. I think sometimes the artist forget or don’t realize that equipment is not cheap by far. I have been bless to have a clientele that respects my prices and don’t mind paying for quality production. Actually a lot them feel like they are still getting over on me lol because of the quality. You will know when its time to go up though.

D-Flow

Lol.. Definitely
definitely bro
Im looking forward to charging big bucks.. lol

Marv

We almost finish dude. Let me ask one more. Because we don’t get a weekly check. How would rate yourself when it come to being a good steward over your beat money?

D-Flow

Honestly 6.5/10 lol.
Gods been working on me. I think for the most part though i save a lot…to be honest. So i invest in new equipment. Or other things that i feel are necessary you know. Bills, etc. so i’ll take back the 6.5 and give myself 8. But i feel there’s always room for improvement

Marv

Married?

D-Flow

No sir i’m not married. Im actually just about to graduate from University this May.

Kids?

D-Flow

No Sir.

Marv

Ok you can save a lot of bread. As soon as I make its gon baby lol

D-Flow

I feel you bro. Yeah so i’m taking advantage
lol
