O.L.
Yo! Dj One Nine! Whats happening! Thanks for taking the time to do this!

Dj OneNine
No problem I’m Honored…

O.L.
Could you introduce yourself to the readers? Who is Dj Uno Nueve and what does he do?

Dj OneNine
Believer…husband…father…hip hop head…DJ
MY love is getting it on the turntables and making beats…
Doing it for my lord is icing on the cake.

O.L.
Word? So a producer/dj? Tell us how you got started or what made you wanna get into creating music and scratching vinyl?

Dj OneNine
I go way way back. First I can remember hearing was grandmaster flash on the wheels of steel and DST on rocket…

O.L.
Yooooooooooo!!!!! Flash!

Dj OneNine
Trying to figure out what the world they were doing.
No youtube, no videos yet…
No instructions. Started doing pause edits on a double cassette deck
Scratching on mom’s stereo using the volume knob
Risked my life there…

O.L.
Taking it waaayyyy bbbaackkk lol I remember doing those not creating beats but just tapes lol double cassette tape decks yup…
ahahahahahahahahah

Dj OneNine
Before I knew what the mixers did I looped beats to scratch to emulating jam master J/ flash/ wizkid

O.L.
Nice nice, so all this started early…..

Dj OneNine
Yes as a kid. I became the music guy at family get together as I got two tables and a radio shack mixer and it was on
Got to see movies like wild style and later breaking and all. Listened to and recorded late mixshows and got my hands on mixtapes from New York.

O.L.
Late night mixshows
like stretch and bobitto for example?

Dj OneNine
Ha. That was later on. I was getting wblx tapes…

O.L.
ooooooooooo sssnnnaaaaaappppp!

Dj OneNine
Radio from there. Got a hold of jazzy jeff and such.
Now that golden era I listened to stretch and bobbito fa sho…

O.L.
Dope! So fast foward to now, what are you currently using for gear to create and cut the plates?

Dj OneNine
Ground breaking time there.
Now I use traktor and real records of course.
Today’s tech gives the ability to make some of what I scratch, I pull back and dig into my record archives as well…
In 2001 when Christian hip hop was not on vinyl I went on a quest to figure out a way to spin that stuff and I came upon final scratch.
Game changer…well before serato

O.L.
Thats dope, the evolution in gear has been crazy throughout history mang…with that said whom have you been fortunate enough to work with being on the 1’s and 2’s?

Dj OneNine
I’ve done stuff for Sicily, Carlito P, SYD, AON, Swinn the example, Blessed Nazarite, RNF, and Oracle
As of late I have more coming with AON AND Swinn and my man T. Barlow.

O.L.
Yo?! Carlito P? Where did I see that name….but none the less those are some dope artists!
Run us through how you plan out a show or mix when wanting to work with and artist or project…

Dj OneNine
Was while I was with Snackbar sounds with my man Mike Verse Mills
He is from that La Familia crew…

O.L.
SHOUT OUT 2 MIKE MILLS!!!

Dj OneNine
Fa sho. That’s family right there…
Went through much with mike from our beginnings with Gen his wife was in need of a heart transplant I teamed with him to do two heartbeat mixtapes to benifit her
Moved on to be official dj on Dana Kane sounds, then he rebranded it to anamorphic music and we had a lot of fun doing that and now with that label closing I’m rebranding myself and keeping
it moving.

O.L.
Snackbar sounds then anamorphic was the rebrand…
Gotchu, salute 2 Mike! How do you go about working? Do you need to be in a specific mood to cut and scratch or just a specific artist? What does youre workflow look like in that regard?

Dj OneNine
I am a relationship guy. I like to build with people as much as I can. Get a feel for what they want and then move into their project. Sometimes they have ideas and sometimes it’s wide open
for me and what I do. Either way I give my best
I usually get a reference track from them with lyrics, I work out what’s to be scratched, do my takes and finalize it and send them a reference track with scratches, and upon their green
light…arrange what we agree on in price and I send them a scratches/acapellas that they can lay in their program…As far as mood I can be on turntables all day any day if it’s up to me.

O.L.
I see….artists watch out! Speaking of which, whom would you like to work with?

Dj OneNine
Read B Verses is one.
I want to get sup tha chemist to lace one track with me. That’s a dream thing…

O.L.
SHOUTS OUT 2 READ B! WHAT UP DOE!
Salute 2 Sup and the legends!

Dj OneNine
Lots I would love to work with. Those are first that come to mind.
Fa sho.
As I drive forward I know some dopeness exist in the rear view mirror
I see myself in that mirror with them as I look out the front windshield they get respect.

O.L.
I see I see…..tell us what we can expect from you in the future One Nine…

Dj OneNine
I’m doing my series of videos “OneNine for your Minds” weekly as best I can. Just me on the tables cutting up singles I choose from what is sent to me
For a fee I’ll do full projects or mixtapes as well for promotion
Got joints in the queue with my brothers Swinn and Josh (aka AON) and a track with my man T.Barlow
