Maybe you mean: 'main slider'
Marv
Jay!!! What up my dude!
Jay
Whats good bro!!! I’m just here chilling, finally settled in from the move to Cali.
Marv
No doubt. First off I appreciate you taking the time to get up with me.
Jay
Its my pleasure bro.
Marv
For those that may not have heard of you, please tell the readers who you are and what you do.
Jay
I am Cardec Drums. Producer and Drummer.
Marv
Married? Kids?
Jay
No sir! Single and excepting applicants. lol
Marv
LOL ok ok. I know you where in Florida. What made you decide to move to Cali?
Jay
I’m a drummer and I tour A LOT with Dominic Balli who is based out of Southern Cali. So it just made sense to move out here. There’s just so much opportunity out here for production as well. I’m loving it so far.
Marv
Ok ok… Whats your affiliation with STRT TRBL?
Jay
That’s the Family!!! They handle my management and those sort of things. S/O to Mike Luna Best Manager in the world!
Marv
Hmmm… Are they managing you on the production tip?
Jay
Yeah they handle the business side of things, contracts that type of stuff. Also keeps me from doing stupid stuff. lol
Marv
Ok. So from your perspective, it’s beneficial to have a manager. The reason I’m asking is because, a lot of producers wouldn’tthink it’s necessary to have one.
Jay
You have to man. There’s a lot of shady business going on now a days and you gotta protect yourself. It’s also good to have someone beside you who supports what you do and believes in you. For producers the out there, you should know your value. Don’t let artist or labels undervalue your work. Your talent, work and time is worth something and they need to know that. Especially if you do this full time like me. Which it one of the main reasons why I needed a manager.
Jay
Sorry for novel lol that’s a topic I could go on and on about. lol
Marv
No problem. I want the readers to be educated with that kind of knowledge. Its unfortunate a lot of dudes get burned because they don’t know or take the time to find out. How did you get into producing?
Jay
Well I’ve been around music all my life. My dad is a musician. He’s a percussionist and toured with a lot of bands back in the day. I started playing drums when I was 2 in the church and I was just around it. I got into producing and making beats in middle school. I was in the 7th grade and I knew a dude on the bus who made beats. I heard his stuff I and the next day I bought a bootleg copy of Fruity Loops 3 from him for $20 and I was off!
Marv
Ha ha ok. I’m a drummer as well. Started playing drums, went on to DJing, and then producing. What are you using for production?
Jay
My main DAW is FL Studio 11 for mixing I’ll use Protools and plugins, the usual and a LOAD 808’s and drums sounds. lol
Marv
What’s your process when creating a track?
Jay
Usually start with the melody or sample. Even with chords for the most part. Sometimes I’ll start with drums. It just depends what I’m feeling like and what inspires me.
Marv
Ok. Who are some of the artist you’ve worked with?
Jay
Social Club, Alex Faith, L9, SPZRKT, Swoope, Dre Murray, Hillary Jane, KB, John Givez, Canon,(I’m forgetting a lot of others lol) and an artist who I think will change the game and one of my best friends Swade!
Marv
Mang that Willie Hutch flip was crazy bro on Swade mixtape…. Wheww you just let that mug breathe.
Jay
Yea man! I love that joint. that was really the only way I knew how to do it justice since OutKast and UGK made a classic out of that sample. So my thought process behind it was to pay tribute to obviously Willie Hutch but also UGK and Outkast. they where both HUGE influences for me and Swade. So I didn’t wanna copy it so the only thing I could think was leave it alone. it’s already a great song. So I just chopped it up.
Marv
No Doubt. So what do you have going on that we should expecting in the future?
Jay
Swade and I are in full swing on his next project! and its gonna something crazy! The song Writing is SO CRAZY on this new stuff. Production is also different. We definitely wanna bring that classic southern hip hop sound back in a modern way and just represent for the south.
Marv
No doubt fam. Any last words for the readers?
Jay
Record Labels who owe money (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!) Just pay me please. Im hungry. lol Naw, to all the aspiring Artist and Producers keep doing you and stay ORIGINAL!!!! The world needs more Originality.
