The DJ'S

Interview With DJ Sean-Blu

Marv
Sean what up family!

Sean Blu
What’s good with you?

Marv
I’m well bro. First off thank you for getting up with me.

Sean Blu
No Doubt!

Marv
For those who may not know of you, can you please tell the readers who you are and what you do?

Sean Blu
I’m Sean Wilson aka DJ Sean Blu aka The Six Million Man aka Get out of My way. I’m a Mixtape,Party,Tour, and Radio DJ.

Marv
Ok ok how long have you been DJing for?

Sean Blu
Started in 1988!

Marv
Wow! Long time bro. How did you get into DJing?

Sean Blu
I drew interest from a good friend that I was in a group with my older brother. I actually was the beat maker/drummer of the group and my man DJ BONE and I use to kind play around with each others equipment in between breaks when recording at the crib and he actually gave my first turntable. So I would play around with that turntable and kind of pratice not really taking it seriously that was like ’87 and a year later I kind of got pretty good at it! I learned how to scratch before I learned how to mix. Mixing was easy for me because I knew how to count bpms already.

Marv
Man I always say if you were or are a DJ, you either were a drummer or producer and vice versa. Almost a natural thing.

Sean Blu
I went backwards because I wanted to produce and make beats, but DJing seemed to give me more opportunities than doing tracks. Most DJs transition to producers.

Marv
When I think of OG’s, I think of you, the late Great DJ Lace, DJ IrockJesus, and DJ Official. Do the younger DJ’s pay the necessary respect to you guy’s or does it even matter?

Sean Blu
For me I think some type of acknowledgement should be made to a individual(s) that made a significant contribution to the movement that paved a way for you. I don’t think its enough of that today and definitely in Hip Hop. You dont have to kiss my feet or bow to me nothing like that but acknowledge my contribution whether you liked me or not.

Marv
Hmmm… Why do you think it is that way? Is it because dudes don’t know who paved the way or maybe just a pride thing?

Sean Blu
I’m not sure bro.

Marv
No doubt. You’ve accomplished a lot of things, but it seems like that you hold mixtapes dear to your heart. Why do you think it’s important to keep the mixtape circuit going? Especially with all the technology an artist can use to get their own music out?

Sean Blu
For me personally the mixtapes definitely with God’s hand in everything got me to this point and past opportunities. The Mixtape is the grassroots engine! Technology has definitely change the format of what actually is still of value today.

Marv
Do artist realize the importance of mixtapes? Do they know that it’s still important for their career. Mainly speaking about artists in CHH.

Sean Blu
Nope!

Marv
Lol. So how do we change that way of thinking or what needs to be done in order to change that?

Sean Blu
Educate! But the younger dudes don’t want to hear that. They feel like the Old dudes and their old way doing things is over. I can respect that, but I can’t respect disrespect!

Marv
Amen bro. What’s your setup these days?

Sean Blu
2 Technics with Dicers/mixer, and SeratoDJ

Marv
Keeping it nice and simple. So what’s the future for the Six Million Man? What can we be expecting from you?

Sean Blu
StreetHymns Syndicated Radio constantly hitting the Airwaves. Continue to do what I do! Keep working and of course the Mixtapes.

Marv
No doubt bro. Any advice to the aspiring DJ that may be reading this article?

Sean Blu
