Wes! What up fam.

Wes

Yo Marv, how you been?

Marv

All is well bruh

Wes

Dope!

Marv

First of I appreciate you chopping it up. You are one of my favorite producers.

Wes

Appreciate it bruh. It’s been a minute since we linked. I’ve always been a fan of your work as well bro.

Marv

For those that may not know who you are, tell the readers who you are.

Wes

For sure. I’m from the Philly area, lived here all my life. I’ve been making music for about ten years now, and about 5 years professionally. I produce, rhyme a little bit, and sing from time to time. My Mom’s calls me a Swiss Army Knife ha…

Marv

That is so true about you. Lol do so much. Who have you produce for?

Wes

Ah man…. Started off making beats for the Rhyme Council team. Erick Lloyd fka E-pistle, Young Joshua, Swift. Then I moved onto working with a few CMR guys, Ambassador and Phanatik. After that I was on a whole lot of placements for a lot of artists, including Lecrae, Shai Linne, STL, Tragic Hero, Alex Faith. Long list bro.

Marv

No doubt fam. Married? Kids?

Wes

Yeah bro. Happily married for going on 8 years next month, and one daughter, 7 yrs old.

Marv

Congrats on that. How did you get into production?

Wes

Well I’ve always played instruments growing up. My parents got me on the piano at a really young age. From there I moved to the drums and trumpet. I actually play keys for my church. So when I started making beats in 2002 the framework as far as theory and structure was already there.

Marv

What equipment did you start out with. And what are you using now?

Wes

I started out on GarageBand on my Macintosh G4. SUPER slow bro, HA. I then moved up to the G5 in 2003 and stayed on GarageBand til around 2008, when I upgraded to Logic Pro, which is what I still currently use today.

Marv

So you did the beat tape My Life Complete in GarageBand?

Wes

Sure did. I had a Stanton CD-J that I would use to chop samples in, then play the samples live. Marv WOOOOW. That’s still my favorite beat tape to this day no lie bruh.

Wes

DANG. That’s crazy bro. I was still rough around the edges back then man.

Marv

Mang I’ve alway thought of you as the 9th Wonder of CHH. Where did the soulfulness come from?

Wes

Well I grew up in a really soulful household man. My parents would have the vinyl spinning all day Saturdays. I grew up on a lot of gospel. Hawkins Singers, Andrae Crouch, James Cleveland, The Winans

Marv

Mang I got all Andrae Crouch stuff literally lol. What instrument you play in church now?

Wes

I play the keyboard and organ. My pops made me get off he drums like 13 years back, ha!

Marv

When we first linked up, I met you when you were Teddy P (TeddyP on them beats) lol. Why the name change?

Wes

HA, yeah man! It was a nickname with a bad connotation from my younger days. I would use my gifts for ill purposes and woo young ladies by sitting at the piano and singing and whatnot. Something I am really not proud of. So I wanted to leave that persona in the past where it needs to be and just be Wes, which is exactly wh0 I am.

Marv

No doubt bro. How do you describe your sound?

Wes

Good question. I would say at the core its extremely organic. I don’t “try” when I make music (unless its a special request). However I am feeling at that moment is what comes out.

Marv

Organic it is bro. So whats in store for you now?

Wes

At the present time I’m actually working on some rhyme stuff. It’s been great. I had put the pen down about a year and some change back to concentrate on production. Probably the best thing to happen, honestly. A lot of my newer stuff is more charged politically and steeped in some real world issues. So many things happening outside the walls, and we kinda brush it off like its not important. I even have a song called “Doesn’t Even Matter” addressing that very issue of how we tend to turn a blind eye to the realities around us.

Marv

No doubt. Any last words for the readers?

Wes
