Hey hows it going Wontel! God bless! Id like to thank you for taking the time to this interview!

Wontel
It’s going good bro, same to you fam! Thank you for the opportunity, I’m truly honored bro.

OL
Could you tell the readers who you are and what you do?

Wontel
Wrong choice of word lol, humbled is what I mean. Ya bro! I’m Wontel, disciple, 21 years young, living in San Diego,CA. I am a producer but I also do song writing and getting Into videography and photography.

OL
Westcoast! Having a passion for those art forms, how do you manage them and keep a balance between them?

Wontel
Lol yessir, ya I do production full time and on my downtime i practice the others but, most don’t know I do some of those things. I also do talkbox (Zapp & Roger)

OL
I see, how long have you been producing for? Who would you say were you influences in production?

Wontel
Been producing for 9 years. I would say the influences for me in music are quite a few. Scott storch, Johnny Juliano, Hit boy, Zapp & Roger. Too many to name all. I grew up listening to music of Motown, 80s freestyle, and rap. Man I just genuinely love music and am influenced by all of it.

OL
I didn’t get into Motown until I started digging in the crates and I think all of us who are in music in some form are influenced by at it as well. Who have you worked with?

Wontel
Ya bro, Motown era holds very dear to my heart! I’ve worked with John Givez, Ruslan, Beleaf, JGivens, Hillary Jane, Skrip, Azaiah Ziv. A lot more up and coming and I’ve worked with illmind. Started getting into secular industry which is a whole different beast.

OL
Oh wow bro thats great! Illminds a beast, was bumping that Happy Bday J Dilla beat tape not too long ago. How do you go about working outside chh?

Wontel
Thanks bro, ya he’s super dope! Just network like crazy and meet the right people. I worked with some friends on there projects and they knew some people and connected me. It’s crazy you never know who you ever really are talking to. They may know people.

OL
Thats so true! What do you use to produce and whats your process in the studio?

Wontel
I use Flstudio, Korg Kontrol49, Yamaha DX100, komplete, nexus, few others. Also bring in session players. I kinda hate sampling. Make my own As far as process. I start improvising till I find a melody (I play piano) or put auto tune and find a melody that way. I love messing with Weird vocal/percussion loops for some reason lol

OL
Any artist you plan to or plan on working with?

Wontel
I would love to work with some the secular artist like Sam Smith, Emeli Sand√©, Hozier, people of the range of music honestly. I dont know if I’ll put it out but, I’m starting a project that will be a blend of genres that will be different from what I’ve done musically Lol won’t even be hip hop.

OL
What can we expect in the future?

Wontel
A lot of projects executively produced and projects under alias names. I want to be the guy always around but, you never know what I do in this industry.

OL
Thanks for taking the taking the time to chop it up with me! Pleasure bro! God bless!

Wontel
Most def bro I appreciate you taking the time to hit me up for this, it was dope! Thanks fam! God bless!
